As I said during the podcast; I haven’t enjoyed tequila in 20 years. This has all changed now that I’ve had the chance to try the tequila in the funny bottle, Asombroso. I’ll be the first to admit that I do not know much about tequila, but this one was very pleasant. It was very smooth and had overall notes of floral and fruit. It did not have what I would consider the basic tequila taste. I’ve read in other reviews that this version is missing the flavors of agave and I wonder if that’s the flavor I find unpleasant. I did and would continue to drink this over ice with some lime. If you’re not a fan of traditional tequilas, this may be the one for you.

I don’t have much to say about the other tequilas…Randy pretty much covered it.

In the last podcast, Drunko De Mayo, we decided to try various tequilas.  Neither Scott nor I are big tequila fans.  But, for the good of the show, we bit the bullet and tried a few.  The selection was of four: Asom Broso, Dos Manos, Margaritaville Last Mango and Lime flavored.

Asom Broso

First I had to get past the fact that they shaped their bottle like a very large penis.  After that, I was pleasantly surprised by the subtle flavors of fruit you taste after the initial small but noticeable bite.  They linger on your pallet.  A tiny lime wedge and ice is all you need for this silver style tequila.   One I would try again, if I see it when I’m out.

Dos Manos

This was a golden tequila aged over 3 years (the Anejo).   This resembled the Jose Cuervo style so many of us are use to drinking.  It would make a very tasty margarita.  The strong alcohol sting is too much for me to just sip on ice.

Margaritaville Flavored

These are right up there with any overly sweetened, high fructose corn syrup, Schnapps.  I’m sure the higher end side of Jimmy Buffet’s brand is much better.  Of course, I’m just guessing as he is more of marketing guy than a true distiller.  Parrotheads, please no hate mail.  I still like his music.

Overall, this experiment into tequila did open my eyes to new possibilities and maybe the tasting of others down the road.  Let me know what you think if you try them.
